Cryolipolysis, also known as fat freezing, has become a popular treatment worldwide, with celebrities having the treatment. Cryolipolysis is a non-invasive, non-surgical, clinically proven method of targeting fat in problem areas using cooling technology. There is no pain or recovery time, and treatments are suitable for women and men of all ages.
The fat freezing procedure involves controlled cooling within the temperature range of below – 9°C. This destroys the fat cells through a natural process called apoptosis (natural cell death); other cells are not as sensitive to fat freezing and are, therefore, unaffected. As the fat cells are destroyed, they leave the body through the lymphatic system. As a result, there is an average reduction of the thickness of the fat layer in the region of 25%–40%.
Fat Freezing Treatment
Cryolipolysis is designed to rid stubborn areas of fat that are hard to eliminate through lifestyle, for example, the love handles, stomach, back and arms. Cryolipolysis (Fat Freezing) sessions last approximately 1 – 2 hours, during which you can enjoy catching up on your favourite Netflix series, reading a book, or even going to sleep.
360 Cryolipolysis Applicator
While standard applicators cool from two sides, the 360 fat freeze applicators freeze the whole area, thus destroying more fat and targeting areas that are challenging to treat with standard applicators. The MED: 360 applicators are guaranteed to destroy more fat cells in a single Cryolipolysis session than standard applicators. With advanced temperature control and a larger surface area, the 360 applicators can produce better results in fewer sessions. RT Aesthetics is currently the only clinic in the North to offer this advanced technology, giving you better results for the same price as our competitors. On average, a client will lose 30% of the fat in the targeted area per treatment.
During your Cryolipolysis treatment, a cooling gel pad is placed on the target areas. The vacuum applicator then draws in the stubborn fat as the aesthetic practitioner talks you through step by step what is happening. The temperature inside the applicator drops, and as it does so, the area becomes numb. Clients sometimes experience some discomfort from the vacuum’s pull on their tissue, although this resolves within minutes once the area becomes numb.
The effects of the Cryolipolysis procedure were discovered by scientists who found that cooling temperatures would cause fat cells to die. They identified that when children ate ice lollies, they developed dimples in their cheeks from fat loss. Clinical studies have shown reductions in pockets of fat following a fat-freezing treatment, proving to be safe and effective.
Clients can expect minimal discomfort during the Cryolipolysis treatment. Depending on the sensitivity of the client’s skin, some individuals may experience temporary redness, bruising and/or numbness after the procedure. These side effects are temporary and usually last no more than 7 – 10 days.

What You Need To Know.
Depending on the number of areas you’re having treated, it takes around 1 – 2 hours from start to finish. During your treatment, you can watch Netflix or use one of our iPads for entertainment.
Although risks are rare, some clients report mild redness, bruising and slight swelling after treatment. These are mild and can last up to 48 hours post-treatment, however, most clients do not suffer any post-treatment sensitivities.
Results are permanent as long as a healthy lifestyle is maintained post-treatment. Results are usually visible within 4 – 6 weeks and continue to develop for up to 6 months post-treatment.
Although some clients will only need this treatment once, the best results come with 1 – 3 treatments, with at least a 4 – 6 week gap between treatment cycles.
Our Care.
Prior to your MED: 360 Cryolipolysis treatment it is recommended that you begin to make changes to your lifestyle by:
- Increasing water intake (aim for 2 – 3 litres)
- Reduce the intake of toxins to the body (tobacco, alcohol, caffeine, carbohydrates and fatty foods)
- Increase the consumption of fruit and vegetables
- Avoid a heavy meal an hour before treatment
- Avoid alcohol 24 hours prior to treatment
- Avoid having any laser hair removal or laser treatment 1 week before treatment (in the area you’re having treated)
- If the skin is red, irritated or broken, we cannot carry out your treatment until the skin has completely healed
- Please wear loose fitting clothing, no tight jeans etc
- Avoid Aspirin and Ibuprofen during the treatment programme
In order to achieve optimum results from your MED: 360 Cryolipolysis treatment, we strongly recommend the following:
- Drink 2 – 3 litres of water daily, keep a large bottle with you at all times and infuse with lemons and limes for flavour – this will flush out the crystallised lipids (dead fat cells) out of your body through the lymphatic system
- Exercise a minimum of 1 hour per week as this will assist in the metabolism of the dead fat cells and contribute to a healthy lifestyle
- Follow a healthy eating diet plan (we offer these on our website, head over and click ‘resources’) and reduce your intake of alcohol, carbohydrates and caffeine during the treatment programme
- Regular body brushing at home is a great way to stimulate the lymphatic system to naturally eliminate the fat cells – do this twice daily for 2 minutes
- Use the RT Organics Body Sculpt Oil daily when body brushing to help assist in the removal of dead fat cells and promote good blood flow
- Take 2 scoops of RT Aesthetics 20:80 inulin powder daily, mix with any liquid or food
- Avoid hot baths or showers, steam or heat treatments for 24 hours
- Avoid Aspirin and Ibuprofen during the treatment programme
- Lymphatic massage will accelerate the process of removing the fat cells
The vast majority of people we see here at RT Aesthetics, as long as they are over 18, can have the MED: 360 Cryolipolysis treatment. However, there are some contraindications to this treatment listed below. If you have a health condition not listed and are concerned about your suitability for this treatment, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
- Raynaud’s disease or Cold Urticaria (skin reactions to the cold)
- Problems with liver/kidneys
- Problems with heart/lungs
- Cryoglobulinemia
- Organ failure (serious liver , heart, kidneys disease etc.)
- Unregulated diabetes with secondary complications
- Fever or infection
- Chronic infections such as HIV, HCV etc
- A systemic disease which has an impact on skin, such as systemic lupus erythematosus
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding
- Skin lesions within the area of treatment
- Thrombosis
- Epilepsy
- Cancer (unless approved by a GP and have been in remission for more than 12 months)
With a friendly and relaxing atmosphere, you can be reassured that you will receive a down-to-earth, open and honest service where you will not be judged or pushed into anything you don’t want to do or pressured into unnecessary purchases.
- You will first meet with your Aesthetic Practitioner, who will go through the treatment in detail and ensure you understand everything
- They will ensure all paperwork is completed; this includes a medical history screening, treatment areas assessment and lifestyle questions
- Your aesthetic practitioner will then start by measuring your target areas, taking photos and going through the treatment process
- Once the areas have been marked up, a wet-gel membrane is placed onto the site, and the applicator is put onto the targeted area
- The applicator will begin suction to pull the fat inside the applicator, and the 360 cooling will begin; the treatment takes around 1 – 2 hours to complete depending on the number of areas being treated
- At the end of your treatment, a short message will be given, and we will provide advice on what to do at home
- ou can choose to opt for the post fat freezing Shockwave Therapy at the end of the treatment; this helps to increase the results of the Cryolipolysis: up to 29% more fat reduction in clinical studies
- You will be given aftercare advice on the day of your treatment, and this will also be sent to you via email for you to refer back to
- 12 weeks is the estimated time to see the maximum results; however, clients have reported good results after only 4 – 6 weeks; clients are still advised to live a healthy lifestyle as this will help maintain results
An ‘area’ is defined as one targeted area of fat with one attached handle (RT Aesthetics machines can use two or four handles at once). So, one area is, for example, the lower abdomen (if it’s small) or the left love handle.
