Stomach fat freezing is the treatment people ask us about more than any other, because the belly is where diet stops working first. If you can pinch the fat on your stomach between your thumb and fingers, fat freezing can reduce it: the applicator draws the pocket in, cools it until the fat cells break down, and the body clears them over the following six to twelve weeks. Which belly fat freezing works on, and which it does not
There are two kinds of fat on the stomach. Subcutaneous fat sits between the skin and the muscle, and it is the fat you can pinch: the lower belly pouch, the roll above the waistband, the softness either side of the navel. Visceral fat sits behind the abdominal muscle, around the organs, and it is what makes a stomach hard and rounded rather than soft. Fat freezing only reaches the pinchable layer. A soft, pinchable belly on someone within a couple of stone of their target weight responds well. A firm, rounded stomach that does not pinch is visceral fat, and no applicator can reach it; that changes with weight loss, and we will say so at the assessment rather than take your money for a session that will not show.
How the stomach is treated
The stomach is usually treated as two areas, the upper abdomen above the navel and the lower abdomen below it, because one applicator cannot draw in the whole belly at once. A small lower pouch on its own is one area. Love handles are separate areas again, treated on the same day if you want the whole middle done. We use 360 applicators, which cool the pocket from all sides rather than two, so the cooling is even and the treated area matches the pocket rather than leaving a step. Each area takes about an hour. It feels cold and then numb for the first ten minutes, and after that most people read or scroll until the applicator comes off and the area is massaged for a couple of minutes. You drive home and go back to work straight afterwards.
What the results look like and when
Nothing changes for the first few weeks, which is normal, because the frozen fat cells are cleared by the body gradually rather than removed on the day. From about four weeks the area starts to flatten, and the full result shows at six to twelve weeks, with a reduction in the region of 20% to 40% of the fat in the treated pocket per session. The cells that go do not come back, so the result holds as long as your weight stays roughly steady. When stomach fat freezing is not the right treatment
Loose skin over the belly after children or weight loss does not freeze away, and taking fat from under loose skin on its own can leave it looser. Side effects and safety
Fat freezing is non-invasive and CE marked, with no needles and nothing injected. The treated area is red and tender for a few days and can feel numb for a few weeks; the numbness fades on its own. Bruising is occasional. The rare risk is the treated fat becoming firmer rather than smaller, which we explain before you book. Questions people ask about belly fat freezing
Does fat freezing work on the lower belly?
Yes, and the lower belly pouch is the most common area we treat, because it pinches easily and the applicator sits well on it. One session often makes a visible difference; a larger pouch needs two or three.
Will fat freezing give me a flat stomach?
It reduces the pinchable pocket it is applied to. Whether the result reads as flat depends on how much of the belly is pinchable fat, how much is visceral, and how the skin and muscle behave underneath, which is why the assessment comes first.
How much weight will I lose?
Very little on the scales. A pocket of fat weighs less than people expect, and the change is in the shape and the tape measure rather than the weight. Fat freezing is not a weight loss treatment.
What about the "belly blaster" adverts?
Belly blaster is a marketing name, not a treatment. Ask what the machine actually does to the fat, whether the results are measured in fat or in fluid, and whether the fat cells are removed or just emptied. Fat freezing removes them.
