Most body treatments do one job. Freezing removes fat and leaves the skin to fend for itself; tightening firms the skin and ignores the fat underneath. Exilis Ultra 360 does both in the same session, which is why it is the treatment we reach for when a pocket of fat comes with loose or crepey skin over it: the post-baby tummy, the upper arms, the inner thighs, the knees. What Exilis Ultra does

Exilis Ultra is a BTL device that combines two energies in one handpiece: monopolar radiofrequency and ultrasound. Together they heat the deeper layers of the skin and the fat beneath it to a controlled temperature, around 40 degrees, which the applicator reaches within about a minute and a half. At that temperature two things happen. The existing collagen fibres contract, so the skin firms straight away, and the skin is prompted to build new collagen over the following weeks, so it keeps tightening after the course ends. The same heat disrupts fat cells in the layer beneath, and the body clears them gradually. The applicator monitors the skin temperature throughout and pauses every thirty seconds to check it, with cooling built in so the surface never overheats. There are no needles, nothing is injected, and there is no BMI or skin type restriction.

Areas we treat

Stomach, including the loose lower tummy after pregnancy or weight loss. Love handles and flanks. The back and bra line. Upper arms and bingo wings. Inner and outer thighs. Knees. A course of four sessions is £785 for one area, £1,285 for two areas and £1,785 for three. A course of six, for heavier laxity or larger areas, is £1,199 for one area, £1,999 for two and £2,699 for three. What a session is like

Sessions take between thirty and ninety minutes depending on how many areas you are having. The handpiece glides over the area and the sensation is warmth building to a hot stone massage, which is how most clients describe it. The temperature is dialled to where the collagen responds, not to what you can bear, and you can tell your practitioner at any point if it feels too warm. Afterwards the skin may be pink for a few hours and that is all. You drive home, go back to work and carry on as normal. A course is four treatments spaced one to two weeks apart, which is what the clinical protocol calls for to get the full collagen response.

Results and how long they last

There is some tightening on the day, but the real change builds over four to twelve weeks as the new collagen forms, and it keeps improving for a few weeks after the last session. The fat that has been cleared does not come back as long as your weight stays roughly where it is. The skin tightening is real collagen and ages at the same rate as the rest of you, so we advise a top-up session between six and twelve months after the course to keep it where it is. Who it suits

Exilis Ultra Body suits mild to moderate laxity with a little fat beneath it: skin that has lost its spring after a baby, weight loss or simply time, on someone whose weight is fairly stable. It suits people who cannot have or do not want fat freezing, because there is no cold, no numbness afterwards and no bruising. It is not the right treatment for a large volume of fat, where Emerald Laser or freezing does more, or for heavy, hanging skin, which is a surgical problem, and we will tell you either of those at the assessment rather than sell you a course.

Exilis or HIFU?

People often arrive asking for HIFU when Exilis is the better fit, and the other way round. HIFU delivers focused ultrasound to fixed depths for a stronger lift in one session, and suits jowls, jawlines and necks. Exilis heats more evenly and gently over a course, and suits the body, crepey skin and anyone who wants the fat reduced at the same time. Safety

Exilis Ultra is a non-invasive, CE-marked device that has been through clinical studies and holds FDA clearance for fat reduction and skin tightening. The usual side effects are mild redness and warmth for a few hours, occasionally slight swelling or tenderness for a day. It is not used during pregnancy or over metal implants in the treatment area, and we go through your medical history at the assessment.
