What filler can do, area by area

Lips

Cheeks

Cheek filler restores the fullness that flattens with age and lifts the mid-face, which softens the folds beside the nose and the hollows under the eyes indirectly. It is placed deep, on the bone, and usually lasts twelve to eighteen months.

Jawline and chin

A soft or receding chin and a jawline that has lost its edge are two of the most common structural requests, and filler suits them well because it sits still against the bone. Chin harmonisation brings the chin forward into balance with the nose and lips; jawline filler sharpens the angle and the line. Nose to mouth and mouth to chin lines

The nasolabial folds and marionette lines deepen as the cheeks lose support. Filler placed directly into the lines softens them; sometimes cheek filler does more, because it treats the cause. We will tell you which at the consultation.

Lines above the lip

Fine vertical lines above the top lip respond to a small amount of soft filler. If the lines are caused by muscle movement rather than volume loss, anti-wrinkle injections may be the better first step.

How dermal fillers work

The fillers we use are hyaluronic acid gels. Hyaluronic acid occurs naturally in the skin, holds water and gives the tissue its plumpness. Placed beneath the skin, the gel adds volume where it is put and draws in moisture around it. Results are visible straight away, settle over about two weeks as any swelling goes down, and then break down gradually over the months that follow. Because it is hyaluronic acid, it can be dissolved with a prescribed enzyme if you ever want it gone sooner.

What happens at your consultation

The £25 consultation is where the prescriber assessment happens, which has to take place before any injectable treatment. We look at your face as a whole, listen to what is bothering you, and tell you plainly whether filler will get you there or whether something else would do a better job. If we go ahead, you get an exact price for exactly what you need. There is no pressure to book on the day.

Safety

Filler is safe in the right hands and needs care in the wrong ones. The serious complication is a vascular occlusion, where filler blocks a blood vessel. It is rare, but it has to be recognised and treated within hours, which is why every injectable treatment here is prescriber-led with a clinic medic and a qualified nurse practitioner on the team. We also see the results of cheap filler done elsewhere: migration above the lip line, lumps and asymmetry. Dissolving costs £200 and we do it before starting again.

Aftercare

Expect some swelling and possibly bruising for a few days, more so on the lips. Avoid alcohol, strenuous exercise and heat for 24 hours, sleep on your back the first night and keep make-up off the area until the next day. You can go back to work straight away.
