Which Areas Can Fat Freezing Treat? Stomach, Thighs, Arms, Chin and More

Fat freezing works on fat you can pinch. That one rule decides almost everything about whether it will work for you, and it is why the treatment is brilliant on some areas and useless on others.

The short version

  • Fat freezing works on fat you can pinch. If the applicator can draw the pocket in, it can freeze it.
  • Best areas: stomach, flanks and love handles, back and bra line, inner and outer thighs, upper arms, under the chin, male chest and the pubic area.
  • It will not help loose skin, a firm layer of fat, or visceral fat behind the abdominal wall. Those need skin tightening, Emerald Laser or weight loss first.
  • From £350 an area at our Whickham, Newcastle clinic, with a free assessment to check which area is really the problem.

The applicator has to draw tissue up into it. If you can take hold of the fat between your thumb and fingers, we can treat it. If it is firm and sits flat against the muscle, we cannot, and that is visceral fat which no external treatment reaches.

Here is every area we treat at the clinic and what to expect from each one.

Stomach

The most treated area in the clinic by a distance, for men and women both. The roll that sits over the waistband, the lower pouch that will not go after children, the bit that changes shape depending on the day.

Most stomachs need two applicators to cover the width properly, upper and lower, and most people have two rounds. If you are carrying it as a hard, drum tight belly rather than something soft you can grab, that is visceral fat and we will tell you so.

If yours came after pregnancy, our page on mummy tummy covers what else is going on there, because separated abdominal muscles need something different.

Flanks and love handles

The sides, above the hip. These respond beautifully because the fat is superficial and easy to draw into the applicator, and because the change shows in clothes faster than almost anywhere else.

Always treated as a pair. Nobody wants one flatter side. See love handles for more.

Back and bra line

The roll that sits under the bra strap and the fat across the upper back. It is one of the most requested areas from women in their forties and fifties and one of the hardest to shift any other way, because you cannot train fat off a specific spot.

The skin here is thicker than on the stomach, so results tend to be a little more gradual. More on back fat.

Inner thighs

The area where thighs touch. This one comes up constantly and it is rarely about weight, it is about where your body chooses to store.

Inner thigh skin is thinner and more sensitive than most areas, so we use a smaller applicator and take a bit more care with the placement. See inner thigh fat.

Outer thighs and saddlebags

The pocket that sits on the outside of the upper thigh. It is stubborn, it is usually hormonal, and it almost never responds to training or dieting no matter how hard people go at it.

It is a larger area so it takes more applicator placements, and it tends to need two or three rounds rather than one. Our page on saddlebags goes into why they behave the way they do.

Upper arms

Bingo wings. The soft area on the back of the upper arm between the shoulder and the elbow.

Worth being honest here: some arms are fat and some are loose skin, and they need different treatments. If the skin hangs when you raise your arm but there is nothing much to pinch, freezing will not help and skin tightening will. We check which at the assessment. More on bingo wings.

Under the chin

The submental area. A smaller applicator shaped for the chin, not the same handpiece we use on a body area.

Same rule applies. If it is fat we can freeze it, if it is loose skin under the jaw then HIFU is the right treatment. See non-surgical double chin treatment for how to tell them apart, or chin lipo compared with freezing.

Male chest

One of the most common enquiries we get from men. It works where the chest is fatty, and it does nothing at all where the tissue is glandular, which is a different condition entirely.

Full detail on male chest treatment, including how to check which one you have before you book anything.

Pubic area

Almost nobody advertises this and a lot of people want it, usually after weight loss or children, and usually they have been too embarrassed to ask anywhere else.

It responds well and it is treated with the same discretion as anything else here. Our page on fat freezing on the pubic area answers the questions people would rather not ask out loud.

Where fat freezing will not help

Visceral fat, the firm fat that sits behind the abdominal wall around your organs. You cannot pinch it and no applicator can reach it. It responds to diet and exercise, which is the honest answer even if it is not the one anyone wants.

Loose skin with no volume behind it. Freezing needs fat to work on.

Glandular breast tissue in men. That is surgical.

And anywhere you are hoping for a weight loss result rather than a shape change. Fat freezing takes a percentage of the fat in one specific area. It is not a weight loss treatment and the scales will barely move.

How it works and what it costs

If you want the mechanism, how fat freezing works goes through the science. All pricing is on our price list, with 0% finance over 12 months and a price match on like for like treatments.
