Love Handles Treatment in Newcastle
Love handles are the pockets of fat that sit over the hips and spill over a waistband, and they are one of the most common areas we treat at our clinic in Whickham, Newcastle. They are stubborn for a reason: the flanks are one of the places the body is programmed to store fat, so they are usually the last area to respond to diet and exercise and the first to come back. The good news is that they are also one of the easiest areas to treat without surgery, because the fat is soft, pinchable and well defined, which is exactly what fat freezing is built for.
What causes love handles
Genetics and hormones decide where you store fat, and for a lot of people that means the flanks and lower back. Weight gain fills those cells first and weight loss empties them last. Sitting for long stretches, a diet heavy in refined carbohydrates and, for women, the hormonal shifts around pregnancy and the menopause all push fat towards the waist. None of that is a character flaw, and none of it is fixed by more crunches, because you cannot spot-reduce fat with exercise. Targeted treatment is what shifts a targeted pocket.

Fat freezing
The first choice for most people. A 360 applicator on each flank cools the fat cells until they die off, and the body clears them over six to twelve weeks. For a wider band of fat around the whole waist, a higher BMI, or anyone who would rather avoid the cold, Emerald Laser treats the flanks and stomach together over a course of ten sessions at £2,500, with a Body Ballancer lymphatic drainage treatment included in every session. It has FDA market clearance for a BMI of up to 40.
Exilis Ultra Body
Where the love handles come with loose or crepey skin over them, Exilis Ultra Body tightens the skin as it reduces the fat: £1,285 for a course of four sessions on both flanks.
EMSculpt Neo
For a waist you want firmer as well as smaller, EMSculpt Neo on the obliques builds the muscle beneath the flank while reducing fat, £2,000 for a course of four.
Which one you need
Pinchable love handles on a stable weight: fat freezing, usually two areas in one session. Love handles that run into a wider band around the waist: Emerald Laser. Love handles with loose skin over them after weight loss or pregnancy: Exilis, or fat freezing first and Exilis after. A waist that is soft rather than fat: EMSculpt Neo. Most plans are one or two of these, and the free assessment is where we measure the area and tell you which.
What to expect
Your assessment is free and there is no obligation. Your practitioner measures the flanks, checks the skin and how the fat sits, and sets out the number of sessions and the full price before anything is booked. Fat freezing takes about an hour for both sides, feels cold for the first few minutes and then numb, and you drive home afterwards. There is no anaesthetic and no time off work. We book you back in at six and twelve weeks to measure and photograph the area, and if you have a like-for-like quote from another clinic, bring it, because we price match like-for-like clinic treatments.
Results and how long they last
Fat freezing results start to show at about four weeks and are complete at six to twelve weeks, with a reduction in the region of 20% to 40% of the fat in the treated area per session. The fat cells that are removed do not come back; the ones that remain can still enlarge if your weight goes up, so the result lasts as long as your weight stays roughly where it is.
Safety
Fat freezing, Emerald Laser, Exilis and EMSculpt Neo are non-invasive, CE-marked treatments with no needles and nothing injected. Side effects are temporary: redness, tenderness, mild swelling and, after fat freezing, a numb patch that can take around two months to fade, plus a rare risk of the treated fat becoming firmer rather than smaller, which we explain before you book.
