How Long Does Chin Filler Last?

Chin filler is one of the longer lasting fillers. Most of our clients find the result holds for twelve to eighteen months, and a good number go longer than that before they want a top up. Here is why, and what shortens or stretches it.

Why the chin lasts longer than the lips

Filler breaks down faster in areas that move a lot. The lips move every time you talk, eat or smile, so lip filler tends to need topping up after six to twelve months. The chin barely moves. The filler is placed deep, against the bone, where it sits still and does its job as structure rather than as a soft fill. That is why chin filler, and jawline filler, are the ones that last.

What affects how long it lasts

• The product. Firmer, structural fillers are used for the chin and they are designed to hold their shape for longer.
• The amount. A chin that needs 1ml to come forward will hold its shape longer than one where a small touch was used.
• Your metabolism. Younger clients and people who train hard tend to break filler down faster.
• Whether it is your first time. Second and third treatments often last longer, because some of the original filler is still there.

What it looks like as it wears off

It fades, it does not drop. The chin gradually sits a little further back and the jawline softens with it. Most people notice around the twelve month mark and come in for a smaller top up rather than a full repeat.

Can it be removed?

Yes. Hyaluronic acid filler, which is what we use, can be dissolved with a prescribed enzyme if you want it gone sooner. It is rarely needed for the chin, but it is there.
