Marionette Lines Treatment in Newcastle
Marionette lines are the lines that run down from the corners of your mouth towards your chin. Even when you are relaxed they can make you look sad, tired or cross, which is usually the thing people mind most. At our Whickham clinic in Newcastle we treat them with a small amount of filler from £180, and where the real cause is sagging higher up, we will tell you that too.
Why marionette lines form
A few things happen at once. The cheeks lose volume and drop a little, the skin around the mouth thins, and the jowls start to sit lower along the jaw. A small muscle at the corner of the mouth also pulls downwards, and over the years the crease deepens. That is why two people with similar lines can need quite different treatment.
Marionette line filler
Hyaluronic acid filler is placed in small amounts along and under the fold to soften it and support the corner of the mouth. The change is visible straight away and settles over the next couple of weeks. Most people get around nine to twelve months before it needs topping up.
Often the best result comes from treating a little higher up as well. Filler on the cheekbone restores the support the lower face has lost, which softens both the marionette lines and the nose to mouth lines from above. Our cheek, jaw and chin fillers page explains how that works.
When filler is not enough
If the lines are mostly caused by the jowls sagging, filler alone will not lift them, and too much makes the lower face look heavy. In that case HIFU is usually the better start, because it tightens the deeper layer that holds the jawline up. You can read more on our HIFU in Newcastle page and our guide to the best treatment for jowls. If the skin around the mouth is thin and crepey, polynucleotides help rebuild its quality.

Questions about marionette lines
Does marionette line filler hurt?
Most fillers contain a local anaesthetic, and most people describe it as pressure and a little stinging rather than pain.
Will it look natural?
It should. We use small amounts to soften the line rather than fill it flat, so you still look like you, just less tired.
Can it be reversed?
Yes. Hyaluronic acid filler can be dissolved if you are unhappy with it. Dissolving is £200.
Is there any downtime?
You may have some swelling or a small bruise for a few days, so avoid booking it right before an event. Most people go straight back to work.
