Chin Lipo Newcastle: What Chin Liposuction Costs and the Non-Surgical Alternatives

Chin Lipo Newcastle: What Chin Liposuction Costs and the Non-Surgical Alternatives

Chin lipo, or submental liposuction, is surgery to suck the fat out from under the chin through small cuts, usually under a local anaesthetic. It works, it is permanent, and it comes with a week or two of swelling and a compression strap, a scar or two, and a bill that private clinics in the North East quote individually but which sits inside the £3,000 to £8,500 the NHS gives for liposuction. RT Aesthetics does not carry out chin liposuction. What we run at our clinic in Whickham, Newcastle, are the non-surgical chin lipo alternatives, from £350 for a fat freezing session and £995 for HIFU, and this page sets out what chin liposuction involves and costs, who it suits, and what each of the alternatives does, so you can pick with your eyes open.

The short version

  • Chin lipo is surgery under local anaesthetic, with a compression garment and a bruised, swollen fortnight afterwards.
  • The non-surgical route at our clinic is HIFU for the double chin at £995 a session, or fat freezing under the chin, with no needles and no downtime.
  • If the chin is loose skin rather than fat, lipo will not fix it; tightening will.
  • A free assessment tells you which it is.

Why a double chin is so hard to shift

There is no exercise for the fat under the chin. The pad sits in front of the neck muscles, so no amount of chin lifts or jaw clenching burns it, and it is one of the last places most people lose weight from, which is why slim people have double chins too. Genetics decide how much fat is stored there, weight gain adds to it, and age loosens the skin and the platysma muscle over it, so a chin that was tight at thirty can look heavy at forty-five at the same weight. Our guide to getting a more defined jawline covers what posture and weight can and cannot do. When the pad is fat, you need a treatment that removes fat. When the problem is loose skin, you need one that tightens it, and a lot of chins need both.

What chin liposuction involves

The surgeon numbs the area with a local anaesthetic, makes one or two small cuts under the chin and sometimes behind the ears, passes a thin tube called a cannula under the skin to loosen the fat, suctions it out, closes the cuts with a stitch or two and fits a compression strap that you wear for a week or more. It takes about an hour. Most people take a week off, the swelling and bruising take several weeks to settle, the area can feel numb for six to eight weeks, and the final shape shows at three to six months. The risks are the ones any surgery carries: infection, bleeding under the skin, a lumpy or uneven result, nerve irritation and, if the skin does not shrink back, a loose neck that then needs a neck lift. Our liposuction in Newcastle guide covers the surgery in more detail.

What chin liposuction costs

The NHS puts liposuction in the UK at about £3,000 to £8,500 and does not normally fund it for cosmetic reasons. Chin liposuction sits at the lower end of that range because it is a small area under a local anaesthetic, and the price depends on the surgeon, the clinic and whether a neck lift is added. On top of the fee there is a consultation charge, the compression garment, the follow-up appointments and the time off work.

Is chin lipo right for you?

Chin liposuction suits a large pad of fat on skin that is still firm enough to shrink back once the fat has gone, which usually means someone younger with good skin elasticity. A surgeon will pinch the skin at the consultation to judge that, and if it is loose they will suggest a neck lift as well, which is a bigger operation. Chin lipo does not fix a jawline that has softened because of loose skin, does not treat jowls, and does not change a receding chin, which is a bone shape question rather than a fat one. For a small to moderate pad, which is what most people have, the non-surgical options remove a good share of it without the recovery.

Non-surgical chin lipo alternatives in Newcastle

Fat freezing: the closest thing to chin lipo without surgery

Fat freezing draws the pad under the chin into a small applicator and cools it until the fat cells die off. The body clears them over six to twelve weeks, the reduction is in the region of 20% to 40% of the fat in the treated area per session, and the cells that go do not come back. It is £350 for a single session or £899 for a course of three, and most chins need one to three sessions. The area is numb for a few weeks afterwards and that is the whole recovery. It is the first choice for a pinchable pad on a firm jawline.

HIFU: fat reduction and skin tightening in one session

HIFU focuses ultrasound under the skin to reduce the fat pad and tighten the skin over it in the same session, which is why it suits a double chin that comes with a softening jawline or early jowls. One session for the double chin is £995, or £1,295 for the face and neck together, and the result builds over three months and holds for twelve to eighteen months. The device we use is the ULTRAcel Q+. Ultherapy, which you will see mentioned in the same breath, is a separate branded HIFU system that works on the same principle at a higher price; our Ultherapy vs HIFU guide covers the differences.

Emerald Laser: for a heavier chin or a higher BMI

Emerald Laser shines low-level laser light into the fat layer so the cells release their contents, which the lymphatic system clears. A ten-session double chin course is £1,850 and fifteen sessions are £2,650, and it suits a larger chin or someone whose BMI rules out fat freezing.

Exilis Ultra Face: for the skin rather than the fat

When the pad is small and the real problem is crepey skin or a soft jawline, Exilis Ultra Face firms the skin over a course of four sessions from £975 for the neck, and it is the treatment we add after fat freezing when the skin needs help to shrink back.

Which one for which chin

Pinch it. A pad you can hold between thumb and finger on a firm jawline: fat freezing. A pad with skin that has started to slip, or early jowls: HIFU, which treats both at once. A heavy chin or a BMI over 30: Emerald Laser. A small pad with loose skin over it: fat freezing then Exilis, or HIFU alone. A pad so large that nothing non-surgical will do enough: chin liposuction, and we say so at the assessment rather than sell you a course. The double chin reduction page and our guide to the neck, jawline and double chin go through each option area by area, and for a neck that has gone further, the non-surgical neck lift page sets out what can still be done.

What results look like and when

Fat freezing results show from about four weeks and are complete at six to twelve weeks. HIFU shows a little on the day, builds from week six and peaks at three months. Emerald Laser results build through the course. We measure and photograph the chin at the assessment and again at the review, so the result is something you can see side by side rather than something you are told. All of these treatments are non-invasive and CE marked, with no needles and nothing injected, and the side effects are temporary: redness, tenderness and mild swelling, plus a numb patch after fat freezing that can take around two months to fade. RT Aesthetics is a medically led clinic, so every plan follows our clinical protocols with a clinic medic and a qualified nurse practitioner on the team for any medical questions. For men, our guide to non-surgical treatments for men in Newcastle covers the chin and jawline alongside the chest and stomach.
