HIFU vs Ultherapy: Different Yet Similar Skin Tightening Treatment Methods

When you look good, you feel good. We’ve heard this saying many times, but what does it mean?

Well, it’s different things for different people. For some, it means getting a new wardrobe when your body changes. For others, it’s keeping your skin looking young and fresh. However, the idea of having a surgical facelift can be off-putting, which is why HIFU and Ultherapy are gaining popularity as alternatives.

Both skin tightening methods use ultrasound energy to stimulate the body’s natural collagen production with the aim of rejuvenating and tightening facial skin. In this blog, we’ll be focusing on a few more similarities between the two.

#1 – The Ultrasound Beams Used in Each Method are Different, But do the Same Thing

Ultherapy uses micro-focused ultrasound (MFU) beams, while HIFU stands for High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound. While the former is more focused than the latter, they both send a beam through skin layers to get the collagen going.

#2 – They Both Reach the Same Depth in the Skin

HIFU treatment and Ultherapy both treat the skin at 1.5mm, 3.0mm, and 4.5mm. Ultherapy has been around for longer, so there’s more industry data to back up its precision. However, tracking our clients’ progress has proven that HIFU treatment, although it is a more recent development, does not burn their skin tissue or bones either.

#3 – You Don’t Have to Go Under the Knife

Both of these skin treatment methods are non-invasive. This means there’s no recovery time required so that you can go about your life uninterrupted. It’s convenient and saves both time and money.

#4 – Treatment Precision

HIFU covers the treatment area 10 lines at one time (treatment width of 10 mm). Ultherapy covers only one line at a time (1 mm width), which makes it more difficult to cover the treatment area uniformly to get a good coverage and therefore obtain good results.

#5 – Results, Results, Results

Once the treatment is complete, both methods produce results. The skin looks more supple, with a natural glow. At the end of the day, the proof is in the actual outcome. At SABA Medispa, we have performed more than 3,000 HIFU procedures and have an extensive library of a few hundred before and after photos to demonstrate incredible success our clients achieve with the HIFU non-surgical procedure.

#6 – The Ultrasound Beams Operate at Safe Temperatures

The best temperature for stimulating collagen production ranges between 60°C  and 70°C. This is the range that both Ultherapy and HIFU treatments operate within.
