How to Get Rid of a Double Chin Without Surgery: Chin, Jawline and Neck Treatments in Newcastle
A double chin is not one problem, it is three, and they need different treatments. Get the diagnosis wrong and you will spend money on something that was never going to work. So before anything else, work out which one you are looking at.
Which of the three have you got
Fat under the chin. Soft, sits in the submental area between the jaw and the top of the neck, and it is still there when you tilt your head back. This is the most common one by a long way, and it has very little to do with your weight. Plenty of slim people have it. It runs in families.
Loose skin. The jawline has softened and the skin under it has lost its grip. Tilt your head back and it mostly disappears, because there is no volume there, just laxity. This is usually age, or a fast weight loss, and freezing fat that is not there will do nothing.
A recessed jaw. Some people have a jawline that sits further back, so even at a healthy weight with tight skin the profile reads as a double chin. Fat reduction will not change bone position. Filler along the jaw or chin can, and that is a different conversation.
Most people who walk in have the first, a good number have the first and second together, and a handful have the third. We will tell you which at your assessment.
If it is fat
Fat freezing on the submental area is the treatment that shifts it. Controlled cooling takes the tissue below minus 9 degrees, the fat cells die by apoptosis, and your lymphatic system clears them over the following weeks. The applicator is small and shaped for under the chin, so it is not the same handpiece we would use on a stomach.
It takes 45 to 60 minutes. You feel a firm pull and then it goes numb within the first few minutes. No needles, no anaesthetic, no downtime. You drive home and get on with your day.
Most people see the first change at around four weeks, with the full result somewhere between six and twelve weeks. Fat freezing gives an average reduction of 25 to 40 percent of the fat in the area per treatment, so two sessions is the usual plan for a chin.
If it is loose skin
HIFU is what tightens it. Focused ultrasound heats the SMAS layer, the sheet of tissue a surgeon lifts during a facelift, and your body responds by making new collagen over the following months. The jawline sharpens gradually rather than overnight.
The submental and jawline area is one of the things HIFU does best, because the tissue there is thin and responds quickly. One session is standard, with the result building for three to six months afterwards.
Where the skin is only slightly slack and you want something gentler, BTL Exilis Ultra Face uses radiofrequency to firm the same area over a course of sessions.
If it is both, which it often is
Freeze first, tighten second. There is a reason for the order. Removing fat from under the chin leaves a small amount of slack behind, and tightening afterwards takes care of it. Do it the other way round and you undo some of the lifting.
We space the two out rather than stacking them in the same week, so we can see what the first one actually achieved before deciding what the second needs to do.
The neck
Most people who mention a double chin are also thinking about the neck, they just do not say it. Horizontal lines, crepey texture, that soft band running down from the jaw.
HIFU covers the neck in the same treatment as the jawline, and it is the single biggest change most clients notice. It will not do anything for deep horizontal necklace lines, which are creases rather than laxity, and we would tell you that rather than let you find out.
What does not work
Chin exercises do not reduce fat under the chin. There is no muscle you can train that sits in front of submental fat, and no exercise burns fat from one spot. Same for jaw exercisers and mewing, which change nothing about the tissue involved.
Creams and serums do not reach the layer where any of this is happening. Nor do fat dissolving injections deserve the confidence people have in them for this area. They can work, but the swelling is significant, it takes several rounds, and the outcome is less predictable than freezing.
Our blog on how to get rid of a double chin goes through the home remedies in more detail if you want the longer version.
What results look like
Real before and after photographs of our own clients are on the results page. They are not stock images and they are not retouched. Look at the profile shots rather than the front on ones, because profile is where a chin result actually shows.
If it is mainly fat under the chin, our double chin reduction page goes through the fat freezing and HIFU options in more detail.
What it costs
Everything is on the price list, nothing hidden behind a form. We do 0% finance over 12 months, and we price match any like for like treatment at another clinic in the North East.
Book a free assessment
The assessment costs nothing and there is no obligation at the end of it. We will tell you which of the three you have, what will and will not shift it, and how many sessions it realistically takes. If we cannot help, we will say so.
We are on Front Street in Whickham, ten minutes from the Metrocentre and fifteen from Newcastle city centre, with parking outside. Call 0191 649 8699 or book online.
