How Can I Get Rid of A Double Chin
How can I get rid of my double chin?
This is a frequently asked question from many of our clients. The answer isn't always that easy and we need to look at lifestyle, genetics, medication and environmental factors. To understand how to get rid of a double chin, we first need to look at what causes a double chin and how this can influence the treatment the client may require.
Every client is different, therefore one treatment may be suited for one client and may not work for another. Throughout this article we are going to talk about, what causes a double chin, what you can do about a double chin, non-surgical treatments, home remedies, double chin exercises and how to prevent getting a double chin.
What Is A Double Chin
A double chin is an accumulation of submental fat separated by a natural skin crease. It is a common condition that results in the formation of a layer of fat below your chin. Some individuals may have a double chin that stretches out towards their ears and across to their chest.
Double chins are assumed to be associated with only weight gain and diet, however you don't necessarily have to be overweight to develop it. Some clients may experience a double chin from genetics, medication and ageing. Below are some of the most common factors known to cause a double chin.
What Causes A Double Chin
There are a number of factors that contribute to a double chin and it is usually a combination of these factors that result in a visible double chin, not just excess fat like many individuals assume. These factors include the following:
- Loose Skin
- Weight Gain
- Genetics
- Excess Neck Fat
- Small Chin
- Weak Chin
- Drooping Salivary Gland
- Sagging Platysma Muscle
- Age
A double chin can become more noticeable with time and may even be unsightly to look at. This can effect a persons self-image and self-esteem. These factors lead to a negative impact and affects your confidence, meaning you will want to get rid of a double chin as soon as you can.
Exercises That Target A Double Chin
Many of us ask if chin exercises work and what chin exercises are the best todo at home to rid a double chin. If you wanted to tighten and tone your abs you would head to the gym or do an abs work out. Surly its the same for a double chin?
While there is no scientific evidence that chin exercises work to get rid of your double chin, there’s anecdotal evidence. Research has shown that exercises can help tighten and double chin and work well alongside a non-surgical double chin treatment.
Here are 6 exercises that may help strengthen, tone and tighten the chin muscles and skin in the area of your double chin. Unless otherwise indicated, repeat each exercise daily 10 to 15 times.
Ball Exercise
- Place a 9 to 10 inch ball under your chin.

Non Surgical Treatments For A Double Chin
A double chin can be incredibly difficult to shift, they’re not always caused by weight gain and can be attributed to uncontrollable variables such as age and genetics. Going under the knife is always an option but surgery can be daunting and often involves a long recovery period after the operation.
There are non-surgical ways to banish your double chin so that you can feel more empowered when you are faced with your reflection. Read below some of the great treatments that help reduce and rid a double chin. Book your face to face consultation at RT Aesthetics today.
Double chins can sometimes be a cause of the ageing process. As we go through the natural ageing process collagen production slows down and the jowls and jawline starts to lose elasticity, resulting in the skin becoming looser and showing signs of sagging.
Our non-surgical face lift treatment, HIFU skin tightening treatment, more commonly known as Ultherapy®, is effective for lifting and tightening lose and/or sagging skin. Known as the ‘lunchtime facelift’, a HIFU treatment takes minutes to administer and effectively reduces the appearance of your double chin.
One of our most popular non-surgical fat reduction treatment Cryolipolysis, or commonly known as Coolscultping®, 3D lipo, Cryo-Lipo and fat freeze. Fat freezing is a non-invasive, non-surgical, clinically proven method of targeting fat in problem areas using cooling technology.
The procedure involves controlled cooling within the temperature range of -7 to -10 °C. This destroys the fat cells by a natural process called apoptosis. Cryolipolysis could be the perfect solution to treat that double chin by freezing and destroying the fat cells.
When pricey face creams that promise to firm and slenderise don’t work, it might be time to consider Radio Frequency treatment; it’s a great long-term treatment for individuals looking to banish their double chin. Radio Frequency for double chins is on of the most popular non-invasive, non-surgical fat reduction treatment offered by RT Aesthetics.
This modern technique melts away fat cells and can sculpt out a jawline that could cut glass. This treatment penetrates deep into the layers of fat so that your skin looks and feels tighter.
