AlumierMD Chemical Peels Newcastle
A chemical peel removes the tired outer layer of skin in a controlled way and prompts the layers underneath to renew faster. At RT Aesthetics in Whickham, Newcastle, we use AlumierMD medical-grade peels, which are milder on the skin than the peels most people picture and far more effective than anything you can buy over the counter. A single AlumierMD Advanced Peel is £150 and a course of four is £499. Consultations for skin treatments are free.
What a peel can do for your skin
Peels are the right treatment when the problem is in the surface of the skin rather than underneath it: dullness, uneven texture, congestion and breakouts, sun damage and pigmentation, fine lines and the rough, sallow look that builds up when skin turns over too slowly. They are not the answer to sagging or lost volume; for those, look at HIFU or dermal fillers, and a peel can follow either.
The AlumierMD range
AlumierMD peels come in different strengths and blends of lactic acid, salicylic acid and resorcinol. Lighter, lactic-based peels suit dry, dull or sensitive skin and give an even glow with almost no visible peeling. Salicylic-based blends get into the pores, so they suit oily and acne-prone skin. The stronger combination peels are for pigmentation, texture and lines and involve a few days of light flaking. Which one we use, and at what strength, is decided at your consultation after we have looked at your skin, and it can change from session to session as your skin improves.
What happens on the day
Your skin is cleansed and prepped, the peel is applied in layers and left for a set time, then neutralised. You will feel warmth and tingling, occasionally a brief sting, and the whole appointment takes about thirty to forty-five minutes. You leave with a protective layer of SPF and can go straight back to work. There are no needles and nothing is injected.
Downtime and results
Skin looks slightly pink for a few hours and can feel tight for a day. Depending on the peel, expect anywhere from no visible peeling to light flaking between days two and five. Skin looks brighter and smoother within a week of a single peel. For acne, pigmentation and texture the real change comes with a course: usually four peels, two to four weeks apart, with your home care doing the work in between.

Preparing for a peel
Some peels give a better and more comfortable result if your skin has been on the right home care for a couple of weeks first, and we will tell you if that applies to you. Stop retinol and other strong actives a few days before, avoid sunbeds and unprotected sun for two weeks before, and tell us about any medication, recent skin treatments, cold sores or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, because some peels are not suitable in those cases.
Aftercare
SPF every day, no exceptions, because freshly peeled skin burns easily and pigmentation comes straight back if it does. No picking at flaking skin, no exfoliants or retinol for about a week, no facial waxing, sunbeds or saunas until the skin has settled. We go through aftercare with you on the day and you can call the clinic with any questions.
Peels alongside other treatments
A peel pairs well with bio spicule microneedling for texture and scarring, and with polynucleotides when the skin needs rebuilding as well as resurfacing. If you are having injectables, we space the peel away from them and plan the order at your consultation.
