Chemical Peels in Newcastle: Why We Use Bio Spicule Microneedling Instead
Contents
If you are looking for a chemical peel in Newcastle, it is worth knowing that we no longer offer them at RT Aesthetics. People come to us wanting a peel for brighter skin, uneven tone, pigmentation, breakouts or acne scarring, and at our Whickham clinic we now treat all of those with bio spicule microneedling, or with a facial or polynucleotides when that suits the skin better. This page explains what a peel does, what we use instead and what it costs.
What a chemical peel does
A chemical peel is an acid solution, such as glycolic, lactic, salicylic or trichloroacetic acid, applied to the skin to loosen and remove its outer layers. The skin replaces them with fresh cells, which is why it looks brighter and smoother once it settles. Light peels work on the very surface and need little recovery. Stronger peels go deeper and give a bigger change, but bring more redness, peeling and time off with them.
The reasons people book a peel are real ones: dull skin, uneven tone, sun damage, pigmentation, congestion, breakouts and the rough texture acne leaves behind. None of them need an acid peel to improve.
What we use instead: bio spicule microneedling
Bio spicule microneedling uses tiny rods of natural silica, called spicules, massaged into the skin by hand. There are no needles, no acid and no anaesthetic. The spicules sit in the upper layers of the skin for a few days and keep prompting it to renew, so it sheds its tired outer layer and builds fresh cells underneath, with more collagen and better circulation. Straight after the spicules we apply exosomes, a concentrated serum of cell signalling particles that helps the skin repair and settle faster.
It treats the same concerns a peel does:
- Pigmentation, melasma and sun damage
- Acne, congestion and enlarged pores
- Acne scarring and other surface scarring
- Fine lines and crepey texture
- Dull, uneven or rough skin
Your skin will be red and feel warm and prickly for about two days. Flaking starts around day three or four and has cleared within seven to ten days, leaving skin that is brighter and smoother. How much you flake depends on your skin and on how firmly the spicules are worked in, which we adjust at each visit. We recommend a course of four, because the improvement in pigmentation and texture builds from one session to the next.
Matching your skin concern to the right treatment
- Pigmentation, sun damage and uneven tone: bio spicule microneedling. Our pigmentation treatment guide goes into more detail.
- Acne scarring and rough texture: bio spicule microneedling, as a course.
- Dull or congested skin, or a glow before an event: the RTOrganics Facial, which cleanses, exfoliates and hydrates with our own natural skincare and red light therapy, with no downtime.
- Thin, crepey skin that needs rebuilding: polynucleotides and skin boosters, which can be combined with bio spicule microneedling.
- Sagging skin or jowls: a peel will not lift the skin. For that we use HIFU.
If you are not sure which fits, our skin conditions page covers acne, rosacea, pigmentation and ageing skin, or just ask at your consultation.

Consultations take 30 minutes, in clinic or online over Google Meet, and you get the price of the full course before you commit to anything. Injectable consultations are always in clinic.
Questions about chemical peels
Do you still do chemical peels?
No, we no longer offer chemical peels. For the same concerns we use bio spicule microneedling, the RTOrganics Facial or polynucleotides, depending on your skin.
I used to have peels with you. What should I book now?
Book a free consultation and we will look at your skin and suggest the closest match. For pigmentation and texture that is usually bio spicule microneedling. For a regular freshen up it is usually the RTOrganics Facial.
Is bio spicule microneedling a type of peel?
No. There is no acid involved. It does make the skin flake for a few days as it renews, which is why people compare the two, but it works by stimulating the skin rather than dissolving its outer layers.
Does it hurt?
It feels like fine grit being rubbed into the skin, uncomfortable rather than painful, and no anaesthetic is needed. The appointment takes about 45 minutes and you can drive home and go back to work afterwards.
How soon will I see a difference?
Once the flaking has cleared, after seven to ten days, the skin looks brighter and smoother. Changes in pigmentation and texture build over a course of four sessions.
