Bingo Wings: Which of the Three Problems You Have
Contents
"Bingo wings" are three different problems wearing the same name, and the treatment only works if you have identified which one you actually have. The upper arm can be soft because of fat, because the skin has lost its tension, or because the triceps underneath have gone. Most people over forty have some combination. Treating the wrong one is why so many people spend money on their arms and see nothing.
Work out which one you have first
Hold your arm out to the side, palm down. With the other hand, pinch the underside of the upper arm.
- You can grip a thick, soft handful. That is fat. It responds to fat reduction.
- The skin lifts easily, feels thin and is slow to settle back. That is laxity. Fat reduction will make it look worse, not better.
- Now tense the arm. If the underside stays soft and wobbles, the triceps are undertrained. No device fixes that as well as using the muscle does.
That thirty second test is the same one we do at an assessment, and it saves people a lot of money.
What each option actually does
| The problem | What helps | Realistic outcome |
|---|---|---|
| Fat you can grip | Fat freezing or Emerald Laser | 20 to 40 per cent reduction in the treated pocket over 6 to 12 weeks |
| Loose skin | HIFU on the arms | Firmer texture and less crepiness at 3 months. Mild to moderate laxity only |
| Lost muscle | EMSculpt Neo and resistance training | Genuine tone change. The treatment stacks with training rather than replacing it |
| A hanging fold you can lift | An arm lift with a plastic surgeon | The only thing that removes excess skin. We will tell you if this is you |
The part that costs nothing
Triceps make up roughly two thirds of the upper arm. If they have gone soft, training them changes the shape more reliably than any treatment we sell, and it holds as long as you keep doing it.
Press-ups against a worktop, overhead extensions with a single dumbbell, and dips off a sturdy chair, two or three times a week, will do more in three months than most people expect. Arm exercises will not reduce the fat on your arms specifically, because spot reduction is not a thing, but they will change the shape underneath it.
We say this knowing it does not sell a course. It is the honest starting point and it makes everything else work better.
After significant weight loss
Arms are one of the first places people notice loose skin after losing a lot of weight, particularly on a GLP-1 medication where the loss is rapid and takes muscle with it. Timing matters: wait until your weight has been stable for three months before treating the skin, or you are treating a moving target. Our guide to skin and muscle after weight loss injections sets out the sequence.
What we will not tell you
We will not tell you a course of anything gives you the arms you had at twenty five. Non-surgical treatment on the arms improves texture, firmness and shape. It does not remove skin, and the arms are a less forgiving area than the face because the skin is under more mechanical stress.
If you can lift a distinct fold, that is beyond what any energy device reaches, and we would rather send you to a surgeon than take a deposit.
Common questions
Can you get rid of bingo wings without surgery?
You can improve them, sometimes substantially, if the problem is fat or mild laxity or lost muscle. You cannot remove excess skin without surgery. Which of those you have decides the answer.
How long does it take?
Fat freezing peaks at 6 to 12 weeks. HIFU takes about 3 months. EMSculpt Neo shows change within weeks of finishing a course. None of it is quick.
Will exercise alone fix it?
If the problem is muscle tone, often yes. If it is loose skin, no amount of training changes that.
Do I have to treat both arms?
Yes, and we price it that way. Treating one would be an odd thing to do.
Get the pinch test done properly
The assessment is free, takes twenty minutes and carries no obligation. We will tell you which of the three you are dealing with and what would genuinely help, including if the answer is training rather than treatment. Book an assessment at our Whickham clinic.
