3D Lipo in Newcastle: What It Is, Does It Work, and What We Use Instead

3D Lipo is a brand name, not a single treatment. It is a machine sold to salons and clinics that bundles several technologies into one unit: ultrasound cavitation, radiofrequency, a fat freezing handpiece and, on some models, a shockwave or dermology head. When someone in Newcastle asks us about 3D Lipo, what they usually want to know is whether it works, what it costs, and whether it is the same as what we do. Here is the honest answer.

What 3D Lipo actually is

The 3D Lipo name covers a family of machines from a UK company, sold as an all-in-one body treatment system. A typical package is a course of sessions that mixes three things:

  • Cavitation, which uses low frequency ultrasound to disrupt fat cells near the surface. Our page on ultrasonic cavitation in Newcastle explains why we do not run it on its own.
  • Radiofrequency, which heats the skin to tighten it.
  • Cryolipolysis, or fat freezing, which cools a pocket of fat until the fat cells break down and are cleared by the body.

Of the three, fat freezing is the one with the strongest evidence for permanently reducing a pocket of fat. Radiofrequency has good evidence for skin tightening. Cavitation is the weakest of the three, and its results tend to be temporary. So a 3D Lipo course can work, but how well depends almost entirely on which of the three does most of the work on you, and on how good the fat freezing applicator is.

Does 3D Lipo work?

For a pinchable pocket of fat, the fat freezing part works, in the same way any cryolipolysis treatment does. Expect around 20 to 25 per cent of the fat in the treated area to go over two to three months. The radiofrequency part can firm loose skin a little over a course. The cavitation part is the one to be sceptical about. It is often the part sold hardest, because it feels like something is happening, but the change is mostly fluid and it does not last.

The other thing to know is that 3D Lipo machines vary a lot between salons. The brand has been through several generations, and the fat freezing handpieces on the older units are small and treat one spot at a time. Ask what machine it is and how many areas it can treat in a session.

3D Lipo side effects

The fat freezing part carries the usual cryolipolysis side effects: numbness, redness, some swelling and occasionally bruising, all settling within a few weeks. Cavitation and radiofrequency are usually painless, with warmth and mild redness for an hour or two. As with any fat freezing, there is a rare condition called paradoxical adipose hyperplasia, where the treated fat grows instead of shrinking. It is uncommon and it is one of the reasons we are careful about who we treat and with what.

What we use in Newcastle instead

We do not run a 3D Lipo machine at RT Aesthetics. We looked at the all-in-one approach and decided we would rather use a dedicated machine for each job, because each one does its job better than a combined unit does.

  • For a pocket of fat you can pinch, 360 fat freezing, from £350 an area. The applicators cool the whole pocket from all sides rather than one flat panel.
  • For loose skin, Exilis Ultra Body, which combines radiofrequency and ultrasound in one handpiece, from £785 for a course.
  • For inch loss across the whole waist, hips or thighs rather than one pocket, Emerald laser, from £1,850 for ten sessions.
  • For a soft stomach that needs muscle as well as fat reduction, EMSculpt Neo, from £2,000.

Our body sculpting guide compares them, and if you were pricing up liposuction, our guide to non-surgical liposuction sets out what surgery costs against these.

3D Lipo prices compared

A 3D Lipo course in the North East is typically sold at somewhere between £300 and £900 depending on the salon and the number of sessions. Ours are not the cheapest option and we would rather say so. Fat freezing here is £350 an area for a single session that treats the whole pocket, and you will know at your free assessment exactly how many areas and sessions you need before you spend anything.

Questions we get asked about 3D Lipo

Is 3D Lipo the same as fat freezing?

Fat freezing is one part of it. A 3D Lipo machine has a fat freezing handpiece alongside cavitation and radiofrequency heads. A dedicated fat freezing machine only does fat freezing, usually with larger applicators.

Is 3D Lipo the same as liposuction?

No. Liposuction is surgery that removes fat through a cannula under anaesthetic. 3D Lipo and the treatments we use are non-surgical, with no cuts and no downtime, and they reduce a pocket of fat rather than removing all of it.

How many 3D Lipo sessions do you need?

Courses are usually sold as six to eight sessions. With dedicated fat freezing, one session per area is often enough, with a second for larger pockets.

Which is better, 3D Lipo or CoolSculpting?

CoolSculpting is a brand of fat freezing machine. Comparing it with 3D Lipo is really comparing dedicated fat freezing with a combined unit. Our CoolSculpting vs fat freezing guide covers the brand question.
