Most people who ask us about lip fillers don't want bigger lips. They want the lips they had ten years ago, or a top lip that stops disappearing when they smile, or a bit more definition along the border. What lip filler can do
Lip filler is a smooth hyaluronic acid gel, the same substance your skin makes naturally, injected in tiny amounts into the lip. Depending on where it's placed, it can:
- Add gentle volume to thin lips
- Bring back fullness that has faded with age
- Even out an uneven top and bottom lip
- Sharpen the border so lipstick stays put
- Soften the fine lines that run into the lip
What it can't do is change the shape of your face or replace a good skincare routine. If the lines above your lip are the real bother, smoker's lines are often better treated separately, and we'll tell you that at your consultation rather than sell you a syringe you don't need.
Your £25 consultation
Every injectable treatment at RT Aesthetics starts with a consultation, and for injectables that consultation costs £25. It's non-refundable because it includes the prescriber assessment and paperwork that have to happen before anyone is treated. It's also where we look at your lips at rest and when you talk and smile, go through your medical history, and agree on the look you're after. If we think filler isn't right for you, we'll say so.
How the treatment works
On the day, we clean the area and apply a numbing cream. Most lip fillers also contain a local anaesthetic, so the treatment itself is more of a sharp pinch than anything painful. The filler goes in over 15 to 20 minutes using small, precise injections, and we check the shape in a mirror with you as we go.
You'll leave with a little swelling, and lips can look fuller than the finished result for the first two or three days. Bruising is possible but usually mild. Most people go back to work the same day. We ask you to avoid alcohol, hot drinks, heavy exercise and lip products for the first 24 hours so everything settles evenly.
How long lip filler lasts
Lips move a lot, so filler here breaks down faster than in the cheeks or chin. Most clients find their lips need a top up after 6 to 12 months. If you ever change your mind, hyaluronic acid filler can be dissolved with a prescribed enzyme.

Who carries out your treatment
RT Aesthetics is a medically led clinic and every injectable treatment is prescriber-led. Your consultation and treatment are with a trained practitioner working to our clinical protocols, with a clinic medic and a qualified nurse practitioner on the team. You'll always know who is treating you and what product is being used.
Lip fillers or something else?
If your lips have lost fullness but you'd rather not add volume, polynucleotides and skin boosters can improve the texture and hydration of the lip area without changing its shape. If the area around the mouth is the concern, marionette lines and nasolabial folds are treated with dermal filler from £180. We'll go through the options honestly at your consultation.
Frequently asked questions
Will my lips look obviously done?
Not if we do our job properly. We use small amounts, place the filler where your lips naturally have volume, and build up over more than one visit if you want more. Overfilled lips are usually a product of too much too fast.
Does lip filler hurt?
You'll feel a pinch and some pressure. Between the numbing cream and the anaesthetic in the filler itself, most people say it's far easier than they expected. We've written more on what lip filler feels like.
How soon can I see the result?
Straight away, though the true result shows once the swelling has gone down, usually within a week.
Can I have lip filler if I get cold sores?
Possibly, but we need to know at your consultation. Treatment can trigger a cold sore, so we may suggest you speak to your GP about antiviral tablets beforehand.
Is there anyone who shouldn't have lip filler?
We don't treat anyone who is pregnant or breastfeeding, anyone under 18, or anyone with an active infection around the mouth. Your consultation covers the rest.
Do you offer finance on lip filler?
We offer 0% finance over 12 months on eligible treatments. Ask when you book and we'll tell you whether your plan qualifies.
