HIFU Body Treatment in Newcastle: Skin Tightening for the Tummy, Arms and Thighs

What HIFU body treatment does

HIFU stands for high-intensity focused ultrasound. The handpiece focuses ultrasound energy to a precise depth under the skin, the way a magnifying glass focuses sunlight, so a tiny point of tissue is heated to around 60 to 70 degrees while the surface stays cool. On the body we work at depths of 6, 9 and 13 millimetres, which reaches the fibrous layer that tethers the skin and the top of the fat beneath it. Each heated point contracts straight away and then prompts the body to build new collagen around it, so the skin tightens over two to three months. The deepest cartridge also disrupts some of the fat cells in the layer it reaches, which is why HIFU body gives a small amount of fat reduction alongside the tightening. It is a tightening treatment first and a fat treatment second; for a defined pocket of fat, fat freezing removes far more.

Areas we treat

The stomach, including the loose lower tummy after pregnancy or weight loss. The upper arms, for crepey skin and mild bingo wings. The inner thighs and the skin above the knees. The area under the buttocks, where a little lift sharpens the fold. The back and bra line. HIFU body works best on skin that has lost its firmness but still has some elasticity. Skin that hangs in folds needs surgery, and we will tell you so at the assessment.

What it costs

HIFU body treatment is £1,295 for one area in a single session, with a free assessment first where we measure the area and tell you whether it needs one session or two, so you have the full figure in writing before anything is booked. That puts it alongside our HIFU face treatments, which run from £895 for the eyes and brow to £1,495 for the face, lips, neck and décolletage. HIFU or Exilis for the body?

They tighten skin in different ways and suit different people. HIFU goes deeper and does more in one session, so it is the choice for a loose lower stomach, the inner thighs or the skin above the knees where the laxity is moderate and you want it done in one go. Exilis works higher in the skin over a course of four gentle sessions, reduces a little more fat, and is the better option for crepey texture, thinner skin on the arms and chest, and anyone who wants a comfortable treatment. Fat with loose skin over it is usually fat freezing first and tightening after. The free assessment is where we pinch, measure and tell you which, and if the honest answer is that none of them will do enough, we say so.

What a session is like

Your practitioner marks out the area, applies gel and works across it with the handpiece in lines, delivering the energy in short pulses. Each pulse feels like a burst of heat with a prickle behind it, stronger where the tissue is thin and over bone, and most people find the body easier to sit through than the face. No anaesthetic is needed. A single area takes about an hour and a larger area or two areas up to two hours. The skin is pink and slightly swollen afterwards, sometimes tender to the touch for a few days, and you drive home and go back to work the same day.

Results and how long they last

Some tightening shows within a couple of weeks as the tissue contracts, and the full result builds over two to three months as the new collagen forms, which is when we take your review photographs. Most areas need one session; heavier laxity is planned as two, three to six months apart. Results last in the region of twelve to eighteen months, and a repeat session when the skin starts to soften again keeps it where you want it.

Safety

HIFU is a non-invasive, CE-marked treatment with no needles and nothing injected, and it was used on the face for well over a decade before body cartridges arrived. Side effects are temporary: redness, mild swelling and tenderness for a few days, occasionally a small bruise, and rarely a patch of numbness or tingling that settles over a few weeks.
