EMSculpt Neo Results: What Changes After One Session, Four Sessions and Three Months
Contents
The question we get asked more than any other about EMSculpt Neo is what you will actually see, and when. The honest answer is that it works on a timeline, and most of the disappointment people report online comes from judging it at the wrong point. This page sets out what changes after one session, what you notice during the course of four, and what the area looks like at three months, which is when the clinical results are measured. It is based on BTL's studies and on what we see at our clinic in Whickham, Newcastle.
The short version
- One session: the muscle feels worked and some people feel firmer. There is nothing to see yet.
- Two to four weeks after the course: the muscle change. Firmer, more defined, a lifted bum or a flatter stomach when you tense.
- Eight to twelve weeks: the fat change, as the body clears the cells the radiofrequency broke down. Three months is the full result.
- A course of four is the standard, and at our clinic it is £2,000 for one area with a free assessment first.
What one session does, and does not do
A single session makes the muscle contract fully around 20,000 times in 30 minutes, which is more work than it would get in weeks of training. You feel that straight away: the area is tired, and the next day it is sore in the way it would be after a hard workout. Some people say the stomach feels tighter or the bum feels higher within a few days, and that is real, because the muscle has been worked and holds a little more tone. What you will not see after one session is a visible change in the mirror or a measurement, because muscle takes weeks to grow and fat takes weeks to clear. That is why we do not sell single sessions as a treatment. One session before a holiday will make the area feel firmer, and that is all it will do.
Week by week during the course
The four sessions are five to ten days apart, so the course takes two to five weeks. The soreness drops with each one as the muscle adapts. By the third session most people can take the full intensity, and by the fourth the muscle recovers within a day. The radiofrequency has been warming the fat layer at every session, and the fat cells it breaks down are cleared gradually by the lymphatic system, so nothing visible happens to the fat during the course itself. The muscle is a different story. Towards the end of the course, and in the two weeks after it, is when people start to notice the shape of the area change.
Two to six weeks after: the muscle result
This is the first result you can see. The muscle fibres have thickened and new ones have formed, and the area looks more defined, particularly when you tense it. On the stomach that means a flatter, firmer middle and, for someone whose muscles separated in pregnancy, a narrower gap. On the buttocks it means lift and a rounder shape. On the arms and thighs it is tone rather than size. If you are comparing photos, take them at the same time of day in the same light, because the change is in shape and firmness rather than in a number on the scales.
Eight to twelve weeks after: the fat result
The fat takes longer because the body has to clear it. From around eight weeks the layer over the muscle is thinner and the definition underneath shows more, and the full result is there at twelve weeks. In BTL's clinical studies, which measured the treated area with ultrasound and MRI three months after the course, the averages were around 25% more muscle and 30% less fat. Those are averages on people who fitted the treatment: a stable weight and a pinchable but not thick layer of fat over the muscle. Someone with a large pocket of fat will see the muscle result and much less of the fat one, which is why we often freeze the fat first.
How many sessions you need
Four is the course the evidence is based on, and it is what we recommend for most people. Six suits someone who wants more muscle than tone, for example a bottom that needs real lift or a stomach after a second pregnancy, and it is priced as a course rather than four plus two. We do not recommend more than six in one block. After that the muscle behaves like muscle you built in the gym: it stays as long as you are reasonably active, and a single maintenance session every few months keeps it where it is. The fat cells that have been cleared do not come back as long as your weight stays roughly stable.
Who gets the best results
The people who are happiest at three months have a few things in common, and we check for all of them at the free assessment. Their weight is stable, because EMSculpt Neo is not a weight loss treatment and a gain during the course hides the result. The fat over the muscle is a pinch rather than a handful, so the contractions reach the muscle properly. They have a specific area in mind, usually the stomach or the buttocks, rather than a general wish to be smaller. If that is not you, we will say so and suggest what should come first, which is usually fat freezing for a pocket of fat or Exilis for loose skin.
What makes the results last
Staying active is the main thing. You do not need to train the area hard, but a muscle that is never used slowly returns to where it started, the same as after a block of gym work. Keeping your weight roughly where it was during the course protects the fat result. A maintenance session every three to six months is the simplest way to hold the muscle, and plenty of people book one before summer or a holiday rather than on a schedule. Our EMSculpt Neo cost guide sets out what courses and maintenance sessions cost.
Before and after photos
Our results page has EMSculpt Neo before and after images for the buttocks and the inner thighs, and the EMSculpt Neo in Newcastle page covers the treatment itself. When you look at any clinic's photos, ask when they were taken and on what machine, because a photo taken two weeks after a course on a lookalike device tells you nothing about what you will get. Our EMS vs EMSculpt Neo page explains how to check.
Common questions
How soon do you see results from EMSculpt Neo?
Firmness within a couple of weeks of the course, visible muscle change at four to six weeks, the fat result at eight to twelve weeks, and the full result at three months.
Will I lose weight with EMSculpt Neo?
No, or very little. It changes the shape and firmness of one area. The scales are the wrong way to measure it.
How long do EMSculpt Neo results last?
The muscle lasts as long as you stay active, with a maintenance session every few months if you want to hold it without effort. The fat that has been cleared does not return unless you gain weight.
Can I see results after one treatment?
You will feel a difference, and some people see a little more tone. A visible change needs the course.
