Non-Surgical Bum Lift: What It Can and Cannot Do
Contents
A non-surgical bum lift builds and lifts the glutes with muscle, not fat transfer and not filler. It will not give you the result a surgical BBL gives, and nobody offering a non-surgical version should pretend otherwise. What it will do is add genuine glute muscle and improve the shape, with no anaesthetic, no recovery and none of the risk that makes the surgical BBL one of the highest-risk cosmetic procedures there is.
How the non-surgical version works
We use EMSculpt Neo on the glutes. The applicator delivers focused electromagnetic energy that forces the muscle into supramaximal contractions, around 20,000 in a 30 minute session, far beyond what you can achieve voluntarily. The muscle responds by building, the same way it responds to heavy training, and the Neo device adds radiofrequency to reduce the fat layer above it at the same time.
You lie on your front, fully clothed, for half an hour. It feels strange rather than painful, like an intense involuntary squeeze. You walk out and carry on with your day, usually with the sort of soreness you would get from a hard leg session.
Non-surgical versus a surgical BBL
| EMSculpt Neo glutes | Surgical BBL | |
|---|---|---|
| What it adds | Muscle you grow yourself | Fat harvested by liposuction and transferred |
| Size change | Modest. Shape and lift rather than volume | Significant volume |
| Anaesthetic | None | General or heavy sedation |
| Recovery | None. Train the same day | Weeks, including restrictions on sitting |
| Risk | Contraindications only, no procedural risk | Carries the highest mortality rate of any cosmetic procedure, from fat embolism |
| Permanence | Muscle fades if you stop training and maintaining | Transferred fat that survives is permanent |
These are not the same treatment with different price tags. If you want a dramatic change in size, a non-surgical option will disappoint you and we will say so at the assessment. If you want a firmer, lifted, better-shaped backside without going under anaesthetic, this is a sensible route.
What the results actually look like
| When | What is happening |
|---|---|
| After the first session | The glutes feel worked and slightly sore. Nothing visible. |
| After 2 to 3 sessions | The area feels firmer and more engaged. Most people notice it before they see it. |
| 2 to 4 weeks after the course | Visible change in shape and lift begins. |
| 3 months | Peak result. Comparison photographs taken. |
| Ongoing | Holds with activity, fades without it. Most people top up every 3 to 6 months. |
A standard course is four to six sessions over two to three weeks. One session will not change anything visible.
Who it suits
- People who train. The results stack with what you are already doing, and hold much better.
- People who have lost weight and are left with a flatter shape because muscle went with the fat.
- People who want a change nobody can pinpoint. Because the change is muscle, it reads as you having trained, not as work.
It is not suitable if you have a pacemaker, defibrillator, neurostimulator, drug pump or metal implant in or near the treatment area, and we ask you to wait if you are pregnant.
What about fillers or Sculptra for the bum?
Injectable options exist and we do not offer them for this area. Large volume injectables in the buttocks carry their own risks and require very large quantities to make a visible difference, which is where the cost and the complications come from. We would rather tell you that than take a booking.
Common questions
Will it make my bum bigger?
Slightly, through muscle. It changes shape and lift more than size. If size is the goal, this is the wrong treatment and you should speak to a surgeon.
Does it hurt?
No. It feels like an intense involuntary contraction, and the intensity is built up gradually so you stay within what you can handle.
How long do results last?
Muscle behaves like muscle. Stay active and it holds for months. Do nothing and it fades, exactly as training gains would.
Can I combine it with anything?
Often worth pairing with skin tightening if there is laxity as well as loss of shape, which is common after weight loss. We plan that at the assessment.
