UltraCel Q+ HIFU: How It Works, Results and Cost

If you have been researching HIFU in the UK you will have seen a lot of machine names and very little explanation of what separates them. UltraCel Q+ is the platform we use at RT Aesthetics in Newcastle, and this page covers what it does, who it suits and what to expect.

What UltraCel Q+ is

UltraCel Q+ is a medical grade HIFU platform. HIFU stands for High Intensity Focused Ultrasound: sound energy is focused to a precise point below the skin surface, where it raises the temperature enough to create a tiny, controlled point of coagulation.

Your body repairs each of those points by laying down new collagen over the following weeks, and the tissue contracts as it heals. Nothing is cut and nothing is injected. The energy passes through the surface of your skin and does its work underneath.

What makes it different from generic HIFU

Three things matter when comparing HIFU devices, and they are the same three that explain the price gap between clinics.

• Depth control. Different cartridges deliver energy at different fixed depths, so the superficial dermis, the deeper dermis and the SMAS layer can each be targeted deliberately. The SMAS is the fibrous layer a surgeon tightens in a facelift, and reaching it is what produces genuine lift rather than surface tightening.
• Energy consistency. A medical platform delivers the same energy on the first shot and the four hundredth. Cheap imported machines drift, which is where uneven results and burns come from.
• Shot count. A proper full face treatment uses several hundred shots. This is the number clinics quietly cut to advertise a low price.

What we treat with it

• Jawline and jowls. The most requested area, and where the lifting effect shows most clearly.
• Neck. Laxity and horizontal banding.
• Double chin. The submental area, where there is both laxity and a small fat pocket.
• Brow and eyes. A subtle lift that opens the eye area without touching the lid.
• Cheeks and mid face. Repositioning rather than adding volume.
• Décolletage. Usually combined with face and neck.

What it will not do

UltraCel Q+ lifts and tightens. It does not restore lost volume, so if your concern is hollowing in the cheeks or under the eyes, this is the wrong treatment and filler is the right conversation. It also cannot match a surgical result where there is a significant excess of skin. We will say so at consultation rather than take a booking that cannot deliver.

What a treatment is like

A full face and neck takes around 60 to 90 minutes. We clean the skin, mark the treatment zones and apply ultrasound gel, then work line by line across each area.

You feel it. Each line produces heat and a deep prickling sensation, strongest over the jaw and brow where bone is close to the surface. It lasts a second at a time and stops the moment the applicator lifts. No numbing cream is needed and nobody has an anaesthetic, but it is not a relaxing facial and we would rather you knew that beforehand.

Afterwards the skin may look slightly pink and feel tender to touch for a few days, a bit like mild sunburn. You can wear makeup and go back to work the same day.

Results and timing

There is often a small immediate tightening from the heat, which settles within a day or two. Do not judge anything by it.

The real result is collagen remodelling. Most people start to notice firmer skin and a cleaner jaw outline from around week six, and see the full effect at about three months. It then holds for roughly 12 to 18 months before most people want a top up.

One treatment is the standard. Some people with more laxity add a second session around three months later to build on the first. Nobody needs a course of four or six HIFU sessions, and if a clinic is selling one, ask why.

What is UltraCel Q+ used for?

It is used to lift and tighten skin on the face and neck without surgery. The most common reasons people come to us for it are a softening jawline, early jowls, loose skin on the neck, a double chin and loss of definition around the brow. It works on skin laxity rather than volume loss or pigmentation.

Is UltraCel Q+ better than other HIFU machines?

What matters more than the brand name is whether the device is medical grade, whether it delivers energy at consistent depths, and how many shots your treatment actually includes. UltraCel Q+ is a medical platform with proper depth control and servicing, which puts it in a different category from the cheap machines widely sold online. Comparing it against other medical HIFU platforms, the differences are smaller than the difference between any of them and an unbranded import.

How many sessions will I need?

One in most cases, repeated around once a year. Some people choose a second session about three months after the first where there is more laxity to correct. HIFU is not designed as a long course and you should be cautious of anywhere selling it that way.

Is there any downtime?

No real downtime. Your skin may look flushed for a few hours and feel tender to the touch for a few days, similar to mild sunburn. You can apply makeup straight away, drive yourself home and return to work the same day. We ask you to use SPF daily afterwards, which you should be doing anyway.

Who should not have it?

We do not treat during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or where there is a pacemaker or other implanted electronic device, metal implants in the treatment area, an active skin infection or an inflammatory flare in the area. If you have had filler recently we usually leave at least two weeks, because heat can affect hyaluronic acid. Everything relevant gets checked at your consultation before anything is booked.

How does it compare with Exilis?

HIFU reaches the deep SMAS layer in a single session and produces a stronger lift. Exilis uses radiofrequency and ultrasound across a course of four gentler sessions and gives a more even improvement in skin quality across the whole area.
