Fat Freezing Treatment Review
Fat Freezing, which is sometimes referred to as Cryolipolysis is a clinically proven treatment which reduces treated areas of fat by up to 25%. The treatment is safe and effective for body contouring and can really boost a person self-esteem.
Many of our clients who are looking to improve their body shape stumble across the term “Fat Freezing” or Cryolipolysis. Many clients don’t fully understand the meaning and what it involves. So what is fat freezing and how does it work?
The Fat Freezing Treatment
Fat Freezing is also known by the term Cryolipolysis. It is the process of exposing fat cells to freezing temperatures for a specific amount of time. Freezing the fat cells causes some of the cells to die off, and is referred to as ‘Apoptosis’. So in more simple terms the fat cells are frozen to below -5 degrees and this causes natural cell death within the fat cell. The fat cells are then removed by the body through the lymphatic system.
The effect that cold temperatures have on fat cells was discovered over a decade ago. They found that children who regularly ate ice lollies were developing dimples in their cheeks, thus noticing the effects of fat freezing. This lead to them carrying out studies whereby they exposed subcutaneous tissue to freezing temperatures. Their research showed that temperatures between +4°c and -11°c destroyed some of the exposed fat cells, whilst leaving other tissues like skin and muscle completely unharmed.
What Happens To Fat Cells When You Freeze Them?
During the fat freezing procedure the fat cells are exposed to cooling temperatures of below – 5 degrees. During your Cryolipolysis treatment, the fat cells within the body are chilled using a device that attaches to the area of stubborn fat tissue. Fat freezing is effective on soft and squeezable fat pockets or tissue. If you can squeeze a couple of inches or more, then it can generally be treated with fat freezing. Popular areas that are fat frozen include:
- double chin,
- stomach,
- inner thighs,
- outer thighs,
- love handles,
- men’s chest
During the fat freezing procedure, suction cups holds onto the fat pocket as the metal applicator begin to freeze the stubborn fat. This causes the fat cells to crystallise and shrink in size as they are frozen throughout the procedure. This permanently damages some of the cells and results in the process of Apoptosis (programmed cell death). After Apoptosis has occurred, your body sends cells called Macrophages, to the treatment site to remove the dead fat cells. The treatment is relaxing and pain-free plus there is no recovery time needed. So you can carry on with your day as soon as your treatment has finished.
Fat Freezing & Diet
Many clients ask if diet and exercise do the same thing as fat freezing, however this isn’t the same thing and is a common misconception. Diet and exercise help to shrink existing fat cells but these cells will remain within the body. Losing and gaining weight is just the process of the fat cells increasing and decreasing in size. When treated with fat freezing, these fat cells are destroyed and removed by the body as a waste product (urine).
Fat Freezing Aftercare
After your Fat Freezing treatment your aftercare is emailed to your or printed out to take home. The aftercare includes maintaining a healthy lifestyle, drink at least 2 litres of water per day and taking part in some exercises. Exercise can include walking, house work and the gym. The increase in water helps to flush out waste products such as the dead fat cells and can help to increase the effects of fat freezing.
RT Aesthetics have a KETO diet plan to send out to clients which can help change your eating habits and live a more healthy lifestyle. Fat freeing is a body contouring treatment and will help remove unwanted stubborn fat cells. The treatment is therefore not recommended for weight loss and this will be fully assessed during your face to face consultation.
Fat Freezing Results
It takes 6 – 12 weeks for fat to metabolise from your body which continues for up to 6 months following your fat freezing procedure. However, many clients at RT Aesthetics start to see a noticeable difference from 4 weeks post treatment. It is recommended to follow your aftercare advice given and to book a follow up appointment to monitor your results.
