Client Review Of Laser Hair Removal
As with anyone, I hated the time taken to remove all my unwanted hair on my body. So, a few years ago I decided to stop shaving my legs and switched to waxing them instead. With shaving you get a lot of ingrown hairs and I was sick of the little red bumps that formed on my lower legs from an old school razor – its not a pretty sight. Waxing my legs seamed great for about three days or so. However the hair begins to creep back in and you are stuck with it for at least two weeks, three if you want it to be even more efficient. I also found that when the hairs grow back it would be itchy and unpleasant. I decided May last year I did not want todo this and wanted something more permanent and decided to research what was available.
Laser hair removal was something I had heard about years ago, back when it was the new trend. I thought that it sounded risky and wanted to wait and see if it stuck around and if it really worked. I Basically wanted to make sure it was legit, worth the time, not painful, and there wasn’t any nasty side effects.
I did some research on the internet and discovered that intense highly concentrated light are emitted from the laser into the hair follicles. The pigment within the hair follicles absorb the light which causes heat, this heat destroys the hair follicle. About 90 percent of laser hair removal clients who had the treatment and we’re good candidates for the procedure report permanent hair loss after an average of three to six sessions. I asked my friends and a few of them had tried laser hair removal and most said that after 5 sessions they stopped shaving and some reported that 2 years later they were still hair free – I was sold on this procedure.
I decided that if I was going todo this treatment I wanted the best on the market, after all why go for less and not get the results? So I opted for RT Aesthetics, where they specialise in non-surgical aesthetic treatments. They have highly trained aesthetic laser practitioners who have undergone advance training in lasers. I first called their friendly client services team to book a consultation appointment and patch test. I learnt when booking to benefit from bikini-worthy legs, I would need to start the laser process in winter if I did 1 treatment a month from January, although I could start whenever I wanted. My appointment was booked and confirmation email was sent to me quickly with all the instructions I needed.
I attended the clinic for my consultation and met with my friendly aesthetic practitioner, who went through the procedure in depth. Explained how laser works, what to expect and how much it would all cost me. The laser practitioner also went through a in-depth medical history questionnaire and asked many questions about my lifestyle and health. I then asked some questions I had of my own and then got onto the treatment bed and the patch test was done on my leg. The patch test took less the 1 minute to complete as it was only to see if I would have any reaction. I left the clinic and was emailed my aftercare advice straight after the procedure and advised a practitioner would call me in 48 hours to ensure I had no reaction, which I did not. I opted to attend the clinic a week later for my first of six appointments.
A course of treatment is required as the hair has a growth phase and also a resting and a falling-out phase. Some of the hairs are not there right now because they are in the rest phase and not every hair will respond to the laser. This is therefore the reason why you need multiple sessions, spaced about one month apart, the typical length of a hair-growth cycle. The usual number of sessions a client is required to have is between 6 – 8, although some clients may need more if they have health conditions such as polycystic ovaries.
My Laser Hair Removal Treatment
I arrived at the RT Aesthetics clinic for my first treatment of my course of six. The fist question I was asked from the practitioner was are my legs are shaven, to which I replied yes. I knew from my patch test consultation that my legs need to be clean-shaven for the laser todo its magic. On the day of your laser hair removal treatments it is important to exclusively shave your legs. I was asked a few questions about weather I fully understood my aftercare and if I had any questions that weren’t answer during the consultation. I quickly asked if it would be painful as last time I had my patch test I did not feel anything! The practitioner quickly replied no it is as bad as it was on the day of your patch test, which for me I did not feel anything!
I was next instructed to put on a pair of blue goggles and to take my jeans down while the practitioner rubs ultrasound gel on my calves. Before we begin, he shares with me the one description of laser hair removal I have heard before: “It is virtually-pain free, however the worse feeling you should have is the feeling of a rubber band being flicked against your skin multiple times”. He also explained that the darker the hair, the coarser it is; therefore more energy is emitted onto that follicle, causing greater discomfort. For me it was fine and the practitioner is calm, compassionate and keeps the laser moving up and down the leg in straight lines. The noise from the beeping machine is a little comforting and it was quickly over in 15 minutes. On my second visit it gets progressively easier, mainly because I am becoming more used to the process and love catching up with my practitioner.
At my third laser hair removal visit I begin to see a real difference. The laser picks up a lot more ‘energy’ and the results start to be more prevalent. Following each laser treatment, I have a series of small red bumps on my legs and this actually elates me. This is because I know it means that the laser has picked up that hair follicle and when the redness dies down it will be hair-free.
Laser Hair Removal Facts
Did you know that nearly two million laser treatments were performed in 2018 (the last year that collected data is available), so it must be worth it. Most clients who get laser treatments are focusing on smaller areas of hair growth, for example, the underarms, upper lip, bikini line and chin area. These areas also happen to be much more sensitive, however if your having the latest 3 wavelength laser hair removal you shouldn’t feel a thing! The lower leg, on the other hand, is one of the largest areas that you can have laser hair removal and it takes about 15 minutes altogether for both legs upon each visit.
While laser hair removal doesn’t get rid of hair forever (only electrolysis is FDA-approved for permanent hair removal), it does drastically reduce hair growth—to the point that you can stop shaving altogether. You can get it done anywhere on the body, and the machine can cover large places fast. Legs, back, underarms, bikini line, stomach, face and more. There is no limit to the places you can get laser hair removal.
Laser Hair Removal offers a convenient alternative to the hassle of regular shaving, waxing or plucking, with a single course of treatment providing clients with a permanent reduction in unwanted hair growth. Laser hair removal works by heating the hair follicles to stop new hairs from growing. This puts the hair follicles in a state of dormancy for a long period of time. When the hairs do grow back, they’ll be lighter, finer, and fewer in number.
